Route 66 Travel Log:
Wednesday, 25 March. When
we got up, there was an inch of snow on the ground.
We spent the day getting haircuts (Ellen’s cost a lot more…)
and getting the camper loaded up with our clothes, food and ‘other’ necessary
foods groups. We got out of town just before 4PM and drove to Matt & Erica's place. We met them in time to visit the site of the new home they’re having built in South
Elgin. We had great burgers, and then
spent the night at their house in Naperville.
Thursday, 26 March - The "Official" Start
We left Matt & Erica’s house in Naperville about 8:00AM
and headed downtown. We got down to the
lake front about 9:40 and had been worried that it would have taken much
longer. At the head end of Route 66
Ellen jumped out of the car and started taking pictures. I took the car around the block twice to get
more pic’s and then we were ‘OFF’ on route 66.
The signage in Illinois seems to be pretty good. We had loaded several waypoints into our GPS
and we’re using several other maps and books.
So far we’ve missed only 3 turns…
There are a lot of places to see and stop along the way.
Our destination for the day was Chatham, IL, where brother
Mark (&Robin) live which is only ¼ mile off old ’66.
We got there in time for ‘refreshments’ and the start of the
Wisconsin NCAA B’ball game.
It was a good day and we’re getting used to working the maps
& GPS’s.
