Sunday 19 October - Our flights weren’t scheduled until later in the day so we
could have slept in, but both of us were anxious to get going. We’d been spending the last four days
planning and packing and that was 3 ½ days longer than we should have
spent. It’s one of those tasks where the
amount of time it takes to do it expands with the amount of time available (we’re
retired…..). It’s also one of those
tasks that doesn’t necessarily get better with more time.
Ellen is always nervous about getting to the airport on time
so we left home at 10:15AM for a 1:15 departure that was only a little over an
hour away. We breezed through getting
the car parked, baggage checked and through security and got to sit in the
waiting area for over an hour and a half.
Our flight to Chicago took only a half hour but we ended up sitting in
the plane on the ground because there was no gate available to park. Turns out it wasn’t a problem because our
flight to Frankfort Germany was delayed by 45 minutes. Had over a two hour wait anyway.
We’ll try to get some sleep on the way over. When we land in Germany it will be about 8AM
but will feel like mid-night.
