16 September 2014 – Wednesday
It was finally getting warmer and we were able to sleep with
the windows open so we slept pretty well.
When we got up, it was so foggy along the river that we couldn’t see
it. We packed up and left. It was a long day driving the back roads but
we got 17.5 miles per gallon in the X5 Diesel!
We arrived at the ‘Interior’ entrance to the Badlands
National Park and got a camping spot in the Cedar Pass Campground. It’s not fancy and we’re very close to other
campers, but it’s the only place around.
We got the camper set up and then left it at the camp site
while we went to the visitors center and learned all about the Badlands. We then took a drive around the ‘Badlands
Loop’ and drove 35mph through 25 miles of spectacular scenery.
We ended at Wall, SD and the tourist magnet
of “Wall Drugs”. It was worth the trip
because we had a scoop of ice cream for each of us! We took I-90 back and it was a refreshing to
run 75mph without the camper…..
On the way back to the campground we stopped just inside the
park on the east end and took a 1 mile hike into the ‘baddest’ of the Badlands
and almost got lost because we left the GPS’s in the car. It was worth the trek!
We got back to camper just before 5PM but we’re now in a
different time zone so it feels later……….
