First Day in South Dakota

14 September 2014

Today is my daughter, Katie’s, birthday AND their 12th wedding anniversary!  Happy birthday to Katie, and happy anniversary to Katie and Rick.

We got up fairly early and had a leisurely breakfast and visit with BOTH Mark and Arlene.  We left their place a little after 8 AM and drove to our the farm house that we had bought and worked on, just across from the dairy we had been involved with.  They are currently milking over 2,000 cows are still expanding to their capacity of 2,800 cows.  Ellen said she missed the old farm house.
Milk Tankers

The new barn near the road.

Lots of new trees and buildings at our old farm house.

Looking good.....

We finally entered into South Dakota and headed straight for the first visitors center east of Vermillion.  We collected more maps and about 20 pounds of ‘tourist info’ on the whole state.  The goal for tonight was to get to the “Louise and Clark Recreation Area” just west of Yankton.

We got a ‘prime’ campsite on the Missouri River and had time to meet some camping neighbors from Norfolk, NE and then had BBQ ribs on the grill.  After a long walk, we’re watching football on TV and planning to spend all day tomorrow learning about Lewis and Clark.
