Yankton, South Dakota

15 September 2014

Got up and had a light breakfast and then left from the campsite to do a ‘run-walk’ for 6 miles through the park.

After getting back for showers, we headed back across the river to the Lewis and Clark Information Center in Nebraska (just across from the camper).  We spent 3 hours there learning about the Missouri River, the Corps of Engineers and even the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

While we were on the Nebraska side of the river, we took a 2-mile hike down through the Calumet Chalk Cliffs where Lewis and Clark first had the 4-day meeting with the Sioux natives before getting on with their expedition.

After a late afternoon gourmet luncheon of cheese and sausage in the X5 we travelled back to Yankton to the old bridge across the river for another 1.5-mile hike.

We checked out a couple of hikes for tomorrow morning here in Yankton and then plan to make fairly short drive up along the Missouri River to Highway 44 where we’ll probably start heading west.
