Hot Springs

21 September 2014 – Sunday

Ellen had showered the night before, we had a leisurely ‘get-up’ and got the camper ready for travel.  Keith showered and we took off toward Hot Springs.  We stopped at the Wind Cave National Park and spent and hour or so there touring the visitor center and watched a movie on the park and the cave.  We did not tour the cave but we did get to see our first close up look at Bison.

Hot Springs wasn’t very far south and as we drove through it didn’t seem to be as interesting as we’d hoped.  We drove on to our destination at the Angostura Recreational Area and found a great campsite on the waterfront.

It seemed too hot to take a run/hike in the sun so we drove back in to Hot Springs to see what attracts the tourists.  We didn’t find much, but we did go in to the “Evans Plunge” to see the pool.  If we had a bunch more time, we might have spent the money to get ‘invigorated’.  Instead, we found the “Freedom Trail” along the river and took a leisurely 3-mile walk.  It was nice and it was a break (it’s flat).

We went back to the camper for an early supper of Johnsonville Brats.

Tomorrow we plan to head over to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation near Oglala.  The ladies of our church in Wisconsin work all winter to make quilts to send to them.  We know some of the people there and want to go and meet them.

It was a nice and easy day………
